Alabama has the highest beer taxes among the lower 48 statesAugust 14, 2013
Alabama governments collected $1.05 in taxes per gallon of beer sold as of September 2011, a Tax Foundation survey shows.
Only Alaska’s excise taxes per gallon of beer were higher.
Six of the 10 highest tax rates on beer are levied in the Southeast. After Alabama are Georgia at third-highest ($1.01), South Carolina in fifth ($0.77), North Carolina in sixth ($0.53), Florida in eighth ($0.48) and Mississippi at 10 ($0.43).
